Magazine table, take.... 4?

Another lucky find at a local ReSale store. I just can't turn away from these types of tables. They're too cute! This one has plenty of life left in it and it just wants a bit of color...

After a quick cleaning, Glen here got a nice coat of Cobblestone from Maison Blanche. This is starting to be a favorite of mine because it's so nicely neutral. A few turquoise or white knick-knacks would look cute on this table. 

The little jewelry box doesn't come with the table but is available. :) 

Custom table

This table might look a little familiar to those of you who have been following for a while. (And by the way, please 'join' my page if you're reading!) I did one very similar to this that happened to be my first lucky-find at a CCA reSale store here in town. I'm using the same unknown 'antique' white on this table and I'm currently trying to figure out what kind of filler to use where the leather inlays used to be.

Don't you just love the 'grills' on this one? I'm so glad they're both intact. I went ahead and gave them a quick coat of the same old white but I'm thinking to sand most of that back off to reveal the original brassy tones. 

It just occurred to me that I could try a fabric touch on one of the open spots. A toile, maybe? What do you think, dear reader?

A Versa is NOT an SUV....

I need more staging room. This business of moving the girls' toys around to take pictures and then hauling the furniture back out of the room is cah-razy. Seriously. Anywhoo... here's "Claire" in all her finished glory. 

I think I'll add another coat of wax before selling her but all the hard work is done. I really like how Paris Grey and Pure White work together. I'm a little disappointed with the wax because it seems to buff uncertainly but the shine is great and it's easy to work with so maybe it'll just take time to work out the kinks.  

I just love the hardware on Claire. I found these at Michael's several months ago and intended to use them on my own dresses when I repaint them but they seemed to fit the vanity's personality. What do you think?

This next piece is a FIND. I had gone to pick up another table and this little nightstand? was just sitting there with its own price-tag, waiting to be loved. I asked what they'd take for both pieces and the lady gave them both to me for the asking price of the table I was there for. How awesome is that? I wanted to friend her right there! 

This is the table I went to pick up. Awesome, isn't it? I'm not sure if I understood the owner correctly but I think she said her husband bought an antique shop and these were pieces that came with it. Something like that. Anyway. I'm excited. My FIL has had me on the look-out for something like this and I thought I was going to have to buy pieces that were already done and just repaint them in the color he wanted but I'd much rather dress this fella up. He needs it. 

And yes, then I smooshed three kids into the backseat of my Versa and put this table in the front with me and the night stand in the back. And tied the hatch down. Yikes!

Newly finished

This poor table couldn't decide what color to be. After priming with white, a coat of a vintage looking white was applied. That made the whole thing look TOO white so I did a coat of Pins and Needles  blue on the surface. Still not right. I think there wasn't enough contrast. So I did a layer of Sequoia. It looked... more contrasted. Still didn't look finished. So after splattering the legs with the Sequoia, I slathered on a rough coat of the vintage white and then just sanded the areas where the paint went on kind of scantily. I think it looks much better now. Definitely better than the blase blond wood it started as.

Yup. Until this sweet table finds a home, it's going to be our new school table.  I foresee it lending a hand at being a fort, too.

 Chester the magazine table... he's finally done! I love the bright turquoise color and after adding the little embellishment on the front, this fella is dressed up and needs somewhere to go.

$45 makes this handsome chap all yours!

My garage is looking a little emptier now but thankfully, I found a desk to work on. So that brings my un-finished total to...6 pieces. Better get to work!

Current project and some new finds...

I know, this one looks awfully pink right now. It's not going to stay that way, tho. It may end up taking 3 coats to get it to be as dark as it's supposed to be, tho. I wish I'd have thought to get a dark primer. Doh. I think with enough coats of the Garnet on it and a black glaze, it'll look pretty handsome.

 This magazine table was a fun find at a local CCA ReSale shop. It's been collecting dust for a few weeks but now that it's primed, I'm hoping to find just the right color to make it shine. Thinking about the Bauhaus I used on the octagon table a while back. Maybe a small embellishment on the front would help dress it up a bit?

 Another CCA ReSale find. Twin head/foot boards in really decent shape. A small wood embellishment on the headboard and a bright turquoise should really make it a stunner. I'd like to sell these but if it turns out the way I envision, I may have just found a new bed for Lily.

 This little guy was hanging out with a couple of side tables... I didn't pick up the side tables but thought replacing the top of this would be fairly easy and then it'd make a really cute piece by itself. I think I'll replace the handle with something sparkly. Maybe like this: Anthropologie Bubbled Glass Handle

 Ugh. This one is just not doing what I want. When it was all white, it was TOO white. So I added a coat of blue on the top. Still not quite right. On went a layer of Martha Stewart's Sequoia. Argh. Still not right! So, after distressing it very carefully, I slapped on a coat of the original white and left some thin spots to go back and sand down later, to reveal the Sequoia. I'm really hoping that's good enough. I want this fella to be done and ready to go!

Magazine table - Tiffany

My friend Sunny picked this up for me on her way home one day. It wasn't much to look at right then but a fresh couple of coats of Duck's Egg makes all the difference in the world, I think. I haven't found a replacement lamp for it but I don't guess it's totally necessary. I suppose I could use a hole cutting bit and just cut a plug for it... hrm. Anyway. It's cute now!

 Gently distressed on its 'knees' and 'ribs'. The first coat was actually something called "Cavern" from Behr, I think. I liked it but thought it should show thru rather than be the dominant color. What do you think?

Molly and Eleanor have something to show you

The last couple of days have been fairly productive, as the following pictures will attest. Molly is extremely cheerful and ready for spring. Eleanor is quaintly displaying her vintage charms. 

Color co-ordination is accidental but perfect. 

 Eleanor seemed to be missing something once I took the leather inlay off the top. I toyed with the idea of tiling the upper shelf but it just didn't seem to 'fit'. During a trip to Michael's, I spotted some fun scrap-book paper that was 40% off. I can't resist things that are pretty AND on sale, can I? I think these papers worked perfectly with the cream paint and the peacock motif somehow suits the general feel of the table. Don't you think?

Pardon the messy setting, I just couldn't wait for everything to dry to stage a better picture.

What do you name a magazine/lamp table that's both elegant and sturdy? Ooh... I know. 

Eleanor

 I haven't quite decided on a color for this one. I suppose I need to figure out if it will be for sale or for keeping, first. I think she could look quite fetching in a coat of "Banner Red" with some dark glazing to catch the details on her skirt and legs. But since I've removed the leather inlay on the top and am contemplating tile there, red might not work. I don't know. Suggestions, dear readers?


This next table is just... brilliant. It's so chunky and bold and fun, I'm beside myself. Is it masculine or feminine? Maybe Molly is a good name... after the Unsinkable Molly Brown.

Chester

This is Chester. I think he has great potential. He has a crack on the top surface and I'm not exactly sure how to fix that but it doesn't seem to actually affect the integrity of the piece so I might not worry about it. Anyway, I think he will look lovely by the time I'm done.
